Vijay Jog
School of Business
Vijay Jog has been teaching at Carleton since 1987 and the School of Business has benefited immensely from his experience and knowledge of financial and economic issues. Jog has worked as a consultant to the Department of Finance Canada on tax policy and pension fund investments and has taught at McGill University, the Warsaw School of Economics, and Meiji University in Tokyo. He’s a member of a variety of organizations, including the Financial Executives Institute of Canada, the Northern Finance Association, and the Ottawa Japanese Language School.

Michel Nakhla
Electronics Engineering
Before he joined Carleton in 1988, Michel Nakhla spent 12 years working as a technician, manager, and senior manager at Bell Northern Research in Ottawa. Nakhla is viewed as one of the leading researchers in the world in the area of high-speed interconnect analysis. He has published over 300 articles in international journals and has authored three books. He won the Carleton University Research Achievement Award and the Graduate Achievement Award in the same year and was the recipient of two Nortel Outstanding Contribution Patent Awards.

E.U. Choudri
Economics
This past June, E. U. Choudri celebrated 40 years of service at Carleton. His expertise in the fields of monetary and international economics has taken him all over the world; he’s held visiting positions at Georgetown University, the University of California and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Choudri has received numerous grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada to examine such topics as exchange rates, global competitiveness and trade policy and productivity growth. He has been published widely in international journals and was the associate editor of the Journal of International Economics for eight years.

Gerald Buchanan
Chemistry
When asked to describe a few of his positive experiences during his 34 years of teaching at Carleton, Gerald Buchanan says he has always been impressed by Carleton’s emphasis on higher learning. “Carleton has remained a place where excellence in teaching is given a high degree of encouragement and recognition,” he explains. “Interaction with young minds is exciting, and a constant challenge.” Buchanan’s enthusiasm for education has been recognized by his students and staff within the Department of Chemistry: he’s a two-time winner of the Faculty of Science Teaching Award and Carleton University Scholarly Achievement Award.

Giorgio Ranalli
Earth Sciences
Giorgio Ranalli has developed a stellar reputation within the Department of Earth Sciences since he joined Carleton in 1970. His expertise has been sought after by other institutions as well. He has held coveted visiting positions at universities throughout Europe and has lectured at numerous prestigious conferences. Along with his other professional activities Ranalli serves as the editor in chief of the Journal of Geodynamics and reviews articles for the Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences and Geophysical Journal International.

John Shepherd
Music, and Sociology and Anthropology
Chancellor’s Professor of Music and Sociology and Anthropology, John Shepherd has been instrumental in bringing the joy of the arts to Carleton. He was the founding Director of Carleton’s School for Studies in Art and Culture from 1991-1997 and was the Chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology during 1999-2000. During the 1980s, Shepherd established an exchange program between the School for Studies in Art and Culture and the Centre for Popular Music Research at the Humboldt University in Berlin. Shepherd has received numerous awards throughout his career and was also elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2000.
